Thursday 8th May 2025 - A field of seven have been declared for the William Hill Derby Trial Stakes (Listed), which is worth £60,000, including Aidan O’Brien’s Puppet Master & the unbeaten Stay True.

Ballydoyle have won this contest six times in the past, most recently with United Nations in 2022. Stay True landed his debut in impressive fashion at Leopardstown last month and has will face 7/4f stablemate Puppet Master who was fourth in the P.W. McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes (G3) on his recent seasonal debut.

The pair will be joined by Ralph Beckett’s Prince Of The Seas who was keen on his seasonal reappearance at Epsom, but looked promising as a 2-year-old for Ralph Beckett and owners Valmont Stud last year.

The Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum-owned Rahiebb represents trainer Roger Varian whose Third Realm took this contest in 2021. This represents a significant step up in class for the 3-year-old son of Frankel.

Nighttime Dancer progressed from his debut effort and for the step up to 1m4f when he got off the mark at Southwell last month for Richard Hannon. Rogue Impact arrives into this race after making a winning stable debut for James Owen at this venue on the all-weather.

Andrew Balding’s Wolverhampton scorer Our ‘enery completes the field of seven.
