The Winter Derby is a notable flat horse race which was established in 1998. The race is run at Lingfield Park between February and March annually. The race was established in 1998 and is open to all horses aged 4 and over.

What Is The Winter Derby?

Open to horses aged 4 and over, the race is run over one mile and two furlongs. It also doubles up as a Fast-Track Qualifier for the Middle Distance Category All-Weather Championships, with the winner securing their place on Finals Day.

Who Has Won Before?

In 2024, Military Order won who was ridden by Daniel Tudhope and trained by Charlie Appleby.

Since the Winter Derby was first run, there have only been four jockeys who have won twice: Robert Havlin (2021 & 2023), Adam Kirby (2015 & 2016), Andrea Atzeni (2013 & 2017) and Frankie Dettori, who has won two consecutive times, firstly in 2003 & 2004 and again in 2019 & 2020.

John Godson is the only trainer to have three consecutive wins:

  • Wissahickon (2019)
  • Dubai Warrior (2020)
  • Forest of Dean (2021)
