Horse racing in January at Lingfield Park isn't all on the flat. On Thursday 14 January it's jump racing on the turf, with horses taking on hurdles and fences in the cold winter air. South London, take note: this is the jumps afternoon that makes the usual Thursday plans look a little tame.
There's a real thrill in watching a good jumper meet a fence right. Get close and you'll feel it. Watch the winners parade back into the winner's enclosure to a round of applause.
The parade ring is worth a visit before each race. Jumpers are big, strong horses and they look even bigger up close. Thursday is the new Friday, and an afternoon at the races is a far better reason to leave the office early than a dentist's appointment. Bring the team, call it team building and nobody need know otherwise.
There's hot food and drink on the day, and plenty of indoor seating if you'd rather watch some of the action in the warm.

Children 17 and under go free* to the races when accompanied by an adult (*exclusions may apply). Children do not require a ticket in advance and a free ticket will be issued on the day.
